COVID-19 Policy Letter from the NSSA Executive Committee

Written by Sherry Kerr

NSSA’s Executive Committee has convened the three previous weeks via phone conference to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on our association and, more importantly, our members, member clubs, and NSC employees.

As we watch the world respond to this unprecedented crisis, it is clear to us that we have one priority: the health and safety of our members and employees.

With you as our focus, we recommend our members and member clubs follow your national, provincial, state, and local government precautionary guidelines.

We recommend these guidelines be viewed as the parameters to govern your club’s decision process to host sporting clays and skeet events.

We encourage ALL to consult and adhere to these guidelines as this situation continues to evolve.

NSSA will adhere and comply with the recommendations of local government recommendations and mandates that affect our NSSA- and NSCA-sponsored competitions (e.g., Krieghoff Masters, Kolar U.S. Open, World FITASC, National Sporting Clays Championship, Junior World, and World Skeet Championships, etc.).

We will assess the viability of these premiere events through weekly conference calls and make decisions with your health and safety as our focus.

We fully expect that our decisions will not be universally appreciated, but our mission, as your volunteer leaders in collaboration with your NSC staff, is to serve you and lead our association of 48,000 members and 620 clubs in 31 nations.

We encourage member clubs to follow our lead and assess your activities through the lens of your local government guidelines.

We will:
1. Provide 100% refund of deposits for NSSA- and NSCA-sponsored shoots if cancellations occur -OR- if the shooter is not comfortable with traveling to an event due to their personal risk assessment.
2. Explore options for postponing versus canceling events to a later date in 2020, if feasible and practical.
3. Make timely decisions on NSSA- and NSCA-sponsored shoots.
4. Support our members and clubs through our Headquarters staff performing their continuity of operations, working in both remote and on-site capacities.

In closing, we will continue to monitor current conditions and make decisions with your health and safety as our primary focus. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
